Frequently Asked Questions
- Why hire a sleep consultant when you can just search the information on the internet or read a book?
While it’s true, you can do these things when you are exhausted, frustrated and busy, the last thing many parents want to do is read a book cover to cover or spend hours searching the internet for their exact issues. The information on the internet isn’t always science or evidence-based and might provide contradictory advice or suggestions you aren’t comfortable implementing. The role of a sleep consultant is to assess the bigger picture and look at everything that is going on including sleep environment, schedule, routine, child temperament, etc. Then, we create a customized plan that addresses your unique child and takes into account strategies you are comfortable with and that you can stay consistent with. Finally a sleep coach works to support you and to give you the confidence to not only execute the plan but to hold your hand through the whole thing encouraging and praising you along the way so that you can achieve your goals!
- How long will it take to see results?
Results vary from many different factors including how consistent you are, the age of the child and what method you choose. Many families see results within two weeks, some less and some more. We can talk more specifically on our consultation call about this.
- Can we do sleep training if we still want to feed/nurse at night?
Yes! We can incorporate overnight feeds into the plan if your little one still needs to feed at night.
- What if I am not comfortable with “cry it out”?
We do not have a one-size-fits-all approach and have you choose a method that you are comfortable with, that you think will fit your child’s temperament and that you can stay consistent with. There are other methods besides “cry it out or extinction” to choose from.
- How do I know what package will work best for my child and family?
If you need guidance on what package to choose, we can book a free 15 minute discovery call so I can help you decide.
- Do you offer a guarantee on results?
We do not offer any guarantees as the success of the plan is largely based on consistency. If you follow the plan and take my advice, you should definitely see positive results.
- What age is good to start sleep training?
We say 4+ months as around 4 months is when a baby’s circadian rhythms develop which help them distinguish between day and night sleep. However, you can start a healthy sleep foundation as early as the first day starting to work on healthy sleep habits which you can learn more about in the newborn course package.
